What we store

• Account: your name and email from Google sign-in.
• Favorites & reviews: tied to your account so you can edit or delete them.
• Location (optional): if you allow it, we use your latitude/longitude to sort clubs by distance — stored only in a cookie on your device.
• Anti-spam: a hashed IP is kept with each review so we can remove abuse.

Why we're allowed to hold it (lawful basis)

We process your account and content to provide the service you've asked for, and we keep a hashed IP and run a spam check on reviews on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the directory free of abuse. Optional location is used only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in your browser.

When you post a review

Posting a review sends us an internal notification (the review text and your account email) so we can spot abuse and respond to reports. It isn't shared further. Your chosen display name and review are shown publicly on the club's page.

Who else processes it

We don't sell or share your data. A small number of providers process it on our behalf to run the site: Cloudflare (spam protection) and Google (sign-in). That's it — no third-party analytics or ad trackers.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept while your account exists and removed when you ask us to delete it. Reviews and favourites are removed when you delete them or your account. Hashed review IPs are kept only as long as needed to manage abuse.

Your rights and controls

Under POPIA you may access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, object to processing, or have it deleted. You can delete any review you've posted from the Account page and sign out at any time. To exercise any of these rights — including deleting your account entirely — email support@runclubnearme.co.za and we'll respond within seven days. If you believe we've mishandled your data, you may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).
